Venus Chamber

The Venus Chamber was a project that took an autoclave and converted it so it could simulate the atmospheric conditions on Venus.  The resulted in the chamber reaching temperatures of over 400 degrees Celsius and pressures over 1000 psi (93 bar).  The Venus Chamber was a joint project between the Iowa Space Grant Consortium (ISGC), the SSCL and Softronics, Inc.  I initially worked on the electronics and a basic control system using a Labview interface.  Later two students refined both the electronics and GUI interface to the chamber.  I also worked on the initial testing and assisting students working on the project.  A 3rd student worked on a new tubing system to inject any type of gas desired and to monitor the pressure in the autoclave.

The Venus Chamber now resides at JPL.
