Darksaber

Darksaber remix

I finally broke down and bought a 3D printer, and I figured that a good project to start with this new printer was doing the Darksaber as seen on Adafruit’s website, which you can find here - https://learn.adafruit.com/ble-darksaber-propmaker

The first version I made of this was pretty much verbatim per the instructions provided. And for the most part, it came out just fine. But I figured I could change some things for the second version. All of the changes are just external, mainly selecting some different materials.

For the most part, I like how the remix turned out. I used a blue/purple silk filament, giving the Darksaber a more metallic look. However, This material is a bit more transparent than the black I picked for the original. In a way, I didn’t mind this, but I can see where those that want to recreate the true Darksaber, would not like this change.

The other change was in the clear filament. Initially I was going to replace the RGB neopixels and use UV neopixels. Why? The filament for the remix is a glow-in-the-dark filament. I did try the UV neopixel strip, but it wouldn’t fit. Sure, I could have reworked the grove in the blade, and I might someday, but for now, I put it back in the RGB neopixels. I tested the material with the UV neopixels, which respond to the UV lights very well.
